Pre-K classroom
classroom information and daily schedule
The Pre-K classroom has a teacher to child ratio of 1:12 and a maximum licensed group size of 24. This room serves children ages 4-6 who are planning on enrolling in Kindergarten for the following school year. Our day in Pre-K begins with drop off and teacher greetings at the door. Children put their belongings in their cubbies and wash their hands. Children enjoy free play until breakfast time at 8. After breakfast, children clear their dishes, use the bathroom, and then can return to free play. The Pre-K classroom does not have a bathroom inside the room, and children will use the larger toilets that adjoin the Preschool 1 & 2 bathrooms down the hall. At 9:15, children have their morning circle. Teachers guide the class through a read aloud based on their current curriculum theme for the month, and then they discuss their Zoophonics letter of the week, the question of the day, and go over art, fine motor, language/literacy, and math/science centers for the day. Children participate in centers until about 10:05 when it’s time to clean up to get ready to go outside. Weather permitting, the class spends 45 min to an hour outside and then returns inside for lunch at 11:30. After lunch, children clean up, use the bathroom, and then lay down for a nap or quiet activities until about 1:45. Once awake, children enjoy free play until snack at 2:30. After snack, children clean up and then go outside from 3-3:30. They return inside for more free play until parent pick up time.
