Preschool One classroom
Classroom Information and daily Schedule
The Preschool 1 classroom has a teacher to child ratio of 1:8 and a maximum licensed group size of 16. This room serves children ages 2.5-3.5. Children will either move up to our classroom with the yearly August transition, or when they turn 2.5 if their 2nd birthday falls before October 1st. Our day in Preschool 1 begins with drop off and teacher greetings at the door. The children put their belongings in their cubbies and wash their hands. Children enjoy free play until 8 when we sit down for breakfast. After breakfast, the children clear their places and take care of bathroom needs. The children have their diapers checked or are reminded to use the bathroom every two hours, but it is available to them in between those times as well. The class then spends 45 minutes outside, weather permitting, and returns inside at 9:30 to get ready for circle and center time. Our circle time is brief and developmentally appropriate to keep the children's interest. We spend some time discussing the weather and what day of the week it is, then we ask our question of the day and look at our Zoo-phonics letter of the week. We talk about our current curriculum theme and then go over our art, fine motor, language/literacy, and math/science centers for the day. Children spend about 45 minutes on centers, but they aren’t forced to participate and may choose a free play choice in another area of the classroom. Centers wrap up at about 10:45 to prepare for lunch at 11:15. When children are finished eating around 11:45, they will cleanup and prepare for nap time. After bathrooms, children lay down to nap or rest with a quiet activity until about 2:00. Once nap time is over, children have free play until snack time at 2:45. In the afternoon, we go outside from 3:30-4:00, weather permitting, and then return inside for more free play until parent pick up time.
